NEW FEATURES OF VT 1.39 Beta 18
───────────────────────────────
Ok, this is a quick-and-dirty list of the things that have
changed since the last release of the VT (1.2b).
o GUS (Gravis UltraSound) support. In fact, the only card
supported in this version. See also the new VT-GUS section
of the configuration file VT.CFG
o New video mode: now the screen turns into a 90x63 text mode
that gives a much bigger playfield to fill up with
uninteresting things. :) Use Ctrl+Arrow Key (left or right) to
adjust the horizontal screen position if the default doesn't
fit well with your monitor.
o Vastly improved S3M support. Now it sounds almost as good
as STMIK; in fact, it will play PANIC.S3M and WATER.S3M
(inside FISHTRO.EXE) much better than the ripped STMIK 0.9. :-)
Some details still missing, tough.
o The decorating menu has finally disappeared. Maybe some day
it will see the light again.
o There's a mouse you can play with. It doesn't do anything,
but you may move it with the rythm of the music and have
some fun. It's basically a functional substitute of the
previously mentioned menu, as are some sliders drawn next to
the VU-meters. :-)
o Naming convention. You may have noticed it already...
This beta version also has some features disabled, after
breaking them by introducing the new ones:
o Oscilloscope: it won't work with GUS.
o Loudness filter doesn't work with GUS either.
o Feel free to add things to this list as you see them. But
please tell me about it, else I will keep thinking that it
works.
To everybody who expected more improvements after all this
time: this is what happens when you lose your time doing other
stupid things like demos and job and university and all that
stuff. Special message to PAS owners: give me a good reference
about the card, not all that unusable stuff from MediaVision
that forms the PASDK, and PAS support will no doubt be added.
Special thanks to some people that have contributed to this
version and are not mentioned in the DOC: Oscar G. for lending
a still unused PAS16; Marcos Sagrado, Javier Olmo and Paco
Carrascosa (who else?) for GUS betatesting and general ideas.
And, as usual, the greetings to some demo dudes:
Future Crew, Dust, Surprise! Productions, Silents,
Avalanche, Cascada, <odeNation, Pentagon, Xography,
Irresistible Works, Access Denied, VLA, Postumum, Axxelerator
Logics, EMF, Toxic Zombies, Phantom, Virtual Visions, Extreme,
Imphobia, iCE, The Emulator Institute, DeaD Memory, British
Knights, Synergy Design, Darkzone, Onyx, Epical, Sonic,
Renaissance, Digital Infinitry, and all who deserve a greeting
and are not here (when you have written a greetings list you
know you always forget someone no matter how hard you try not
to).
And, of course, the makers of the wonderful Visual Player,
the best competence and the best help we've got so far.
Greets, and enjoy it!
